My first cat-loving neighbor ended up with over 40 cats at her house. She couldn't keep up with them. The danger with having so many feral cats is that they can develop Parvo, which goes through all the cats in the area. Our cat caught it from hers and died.
Oh my goodness....40 cats! Bless her heart, but that does sound like it winds up being as detrimental as being a stray. Poor things.....and a sad thing for your poor cat as well.
