I think you pretty much nailed what gossip is.
I’ve always considered that gossip could be harmful or hurtful.

Seems that if it is true, as in a first-hand account that isn’t embellished, that wouldn’t be gossip.
I’ve done something really stupid. We’re having fall weather today, and it is delightfully cool outside. I opened the door and let everybody out. Sable and Cadbury have disappeared. I hope I see them again.
You’re correct about gossip, CB and Gran.
Speaking of lived experience which involves you is not gossip. It’s just relaying an experience.
Actually, gossip is done behind a person’s back, which is not possible on an open forum. So we’re all good lol.

A note about “gossip”:
I think that it’s best to err on the side of caution, handling another person’s reputation with the care that we handle our own.
Interestingly, I’m the current object of a smear campaign here in my new neighborhood and town.
It’s fine with me because I know that the talk is not true and I also am learning about a few of the locals.
The ones who have met me and now are shunning me have believed malicious talk.
This is a golden opportunity for me to know more about these ladies since their actions say more about their characters than about mine.
However, since my story isn’t “out there” . . .

This is the danger of malicious talk and bickering: CHARACTER ASSASSINATION.
I don’t care whether we call it gossip or bickering or malicious talk or character assassination.
The problem is that it’s all destructive.
The Talk Which Shall Go Undefined must stop being posted on our public thread or this thread will be destroyed.
I’m not going to sit back and watch that happen.

What is posted on the thread can easily be verified and seen by all, so how is that gossip?
