I am so familiar with that. All of my grandmother’s and aunts and mother’s recipes are like that. It’ll say things like add enough salt. Really hard when you’re a new cook but I think I have figured most of them out.
That’s what I figured about you, and Dolly. Cooks know when it says mix in some cornstarch and water then add to thicken, we’re not talking about two cups lol.
Yes, someone who doesn’t cook definitely needs exact measurements.
Even when I follow a recipe, when it says 1 teaspoon or tablespoon of vanilla, well, that’s just funny to me. I pour vanilla, I don’t measure it.
Recipes were always in our grandma’s heads.
I’ll never forget asking my Swiss Grandmother to write down her Swiss pastry recipe for Dutchlies.
She wrote that it called for a cup of salt.
Now we knew that couldn’t be right.
