How intellectually impoverished is the argument that the 14th Amendment prevents Donald Trump from running for president?
So much so, in fact, that a Barack Obama-appointed judge swiftly dismissed a lawsuit from a group arguing the former president shouldnât be able to appear on the Florida primary ballot because of the events of Jan. 6, 2021.
According to the Palm Beach Post, Judge Robin Rosenberg didnât rule on whether the 14th Amendment could apply to Trumpâs 2024 candidacy.
âInstead, Rosenberg ruled that the plaintiffs, Boynton Beach attorney Lawrence Caplan and two others, lacked âstandingâ to bring the challenge,â the outlet reported.
âPlaintiffs lack standing to challenge Defendantâs qualifications for seeking the Presidency,â the ruling read.
Instead, she said, âthe injuries allegedâ from the events of Jan. 6, 2021, âare not cognizable and not particular to themâ and that âan individual citizen does not have standing to challenge whether another individual is qualified to hold public office.â
In the ruling, the judge also cited prior precedent, in which plaintiffs werenât able to keep candidates off the ballot because of their association with Jan. 6.
Palm Beach-based attorney Lawrence Caplan â who filed the lawsuit, along with two other individuals â didnât comment after the ruling, although he had previously said that standing might be the biggest hurdle his lawsuit would face. Nevertheless, he had previously claimed the Constitution prohibited Trump from running again.

STARLIT, I honestly don’t understand why you always think the worse about everything. Why would they want to hide their children? They want their children to be in school, and NOT shipped to other areas but in Lahina where they live. There ARE areas that were not burned.
Yes some children perished in the fire and it is very devatating, but the 1,000 or so that has been mentioned not being accounted for, that you think was kidnapped and in tunnels, ARE THOSE CHILDREN WHO HAVE NOT REGISTERD to go back to school.
