The price of most seafood seems to have dropped greatly. If one wants to know why, simply look across the Pacific.

It hasn’t dropped in the retail stores... Even canned Salmon is absolutely outrageous.
Price gouging cannot be denied.

I’ve been getting full sockeye salmon filets at Sams Club lately and thought they were a good deal. I cut them up into portion sizes, put them in vacumn seal bags and freeze them. Good eating. Didn’t know there was a glut.

A perfect opportunity for BC, Alaska, Washington, Oregon and California to put a 4 year moratorium on salmon fishing to help rebuild the stocks.

You can have my portion, blech! I’m more of a breaded Icelandic cod kind of guy. With chips and a cold stein of ale.

Costco in Grand Rapids Michigan this past Saturday had the wild caught for 7.99 a pound. One big fillet cut into portions and vacuum sealed will last 6 months in the freezer easy.

Maybe I’ll eat more salmon.
Lox, sushi, grilled, blackened... I’ll see the fishmongers tomorrow... Well, after the hurricane.

I went fishing in Alaska several times. Never caught a salmon because the boat captains said they were scarce. But the halibut and cod were plentiful.

So I work for a private non-profit that supplements wild Alaskan salmon stocks (there are a number of such companies). Yes, many of the "wild-caught" fish are hatchery-origin, but we release them when they weigh about as much as a penny and they put on 99+% of their body weight on a wild diet, thus you can't tell them apart from a wild-origin fish (DON'T confuse these with FARMED fish). This is why you see the phrase "wild caught" instead of just "wild" on fish in stores; this production has the added benefit of saving wild runs from being wiped out. Win-win.
Across the various species, this was one of the best returns in recent memory collectively, but now there's millions of fish dying and rotting around the coastline of SE AK un-fished because the f***ing Russians crashed the market. They crashed it for themselves as well (screwed themselves out of good prices too via the glut they dumped), so as best I can figure they did it out of spite for geopolitical reasons (*cough cough* Ukraine war).
