How difficult is it to be a mother long enough to hand the baby over to any number of safe haven people? Is she drug-addled or just lazy? It’s not as though she isn’t aware of the cost of raising a child, so she’s not devoid of mental capabilities to that extent. Her family sounds as though they would’ve either taken care of the baby or have found somewhere to take him to. Not only did they lose a precious little boy but have discovered a monster among them.
The irony in this tragedy is this: we live in a rural area of the south. I taught at a small elementary school which is about 95% black. I have quite a few very good black friends. I know for a fact that black families raise their nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and children who aren’t related. She had so many loving choices, but she chose a torturous, slow death. Shameful.
