A love song for Saturday night.
A different kind of love song.
A true standard, regardless of the artist’s political views.
He opened for Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell when she and Crowell were on their ‘Old Yellow Moon’ tour. Thompson was part of a 3-piece band, with a powerhouse drummer, and naturally he was great on guitar. Emmylou had him back onstage to play some guitar on a couple of her songs. Great show, Richard Thompson, Emmylou and Rodney Crowell, couldn’t ask for more.
An amazing song from an amazing guitar player. RT does things no other guitarists do (well almost no other) and he does them purely and beautifully. The coordination it takes to play rhythm and lead guitar simultaneously is incredible and he makes it look easy, as do all the masters.
I like Del Mcoury’s version the best.
Nice!
Sandy and Richard, two greats
“I like Del McCoury’s version the best.”
Me too. It’s the theme song for my oldest daughter. “Red hair and black leather, my favorite color scheme ...”
We went to a Reckless Kelly concert about a year ago, and they did that song. It was the second time we’d seen them.
I hate love songs.
.
I know the Brauns. Way back. Will and I email often. Always have vip at the Silver Saloon and Oil Palace. Great guys.
Mickey and The Motorcars is their brothers band.
If you ever get a chance to go to a Braun Brothers Reunion, go.
Those boys have been performing since they could walk.
His style is idiosyncratic to say the least. I love his playing.
One of my faves is his song Hard On Me from the album Mock Tudor:

Both solos are jaw droppers/head scratchers.
Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind!
