Why not? It is exactly what is expected from the geometry of orbits. Remember, no air in space.

8 inches per mile squared blows away the globe.

Why? It is obvious, on a global earth, the higher your viewpoint, the farther you can see. The horizon expands as your view rises above the average surface.
