I’m in my late 70s. When I was a teen we all knew “run from the cops and when they catch you they’ll beat the crap out of you. Break a rib or two”.
So, when they lit us up we pulled over and coughed up lots of “Yessirs” and “No sirs”. Those days are long gone.
It was always a judgement call, as to whether to run or not. Generally, though, not running was the better choice for the reasons you've stated. But you always have to consider if escape is a likely possibility.
