“your entire driving life is limited to driving to work and back.”

I think you missed scottinoc’s point. That’s the GOAL of the Commies.

Sometimes I wonder if some folks really believe that Star Trek is the future... One, big, happy, just, fair, and optimistic world where money is obsolete and everyone has everything they desire... Oh, wait, did Karl Marx say that?

“Traditional cars are like Windows... electric cars are like Apple.”

And cars built before about 1980 are like cars.

When our 1983 Buick Skylark died TWICE in six months because the chip running the injectors screwed up and stranded us out of town on both occasions, I told my wife, “This doesn’t look good for the future.”

Is there a company on the stock exchange that sells horses? Maybe that’s a good investment...

Excellent point. I always thought it would have been better to be able to drop old batteries and replace them with new ones, like the kids’ toys do.

Quick change for the motorist, and the “service stations” can let them charge overnight. Lots of heavy equipment involved with big batteries, so make them rechargeable so you can do it at home if needed. Kinda simple and naive, but seems doable.

I’m an engineer, so I understand what you are saying. I haven’t given the interchangeable battery idea too much thought, because I don’t have enough “juice” to make it happen. I can think of a dozen drawbacks that would have to be straightened out to make it work. Maybe that’s why everyone went with the rechargeable scenario.

Nicely worded argument. Well thought out. Precise and intelligent.

I’m sitting here laughing at myself. I’ve been very sick for two days, and this thread passed me by. It was on my “ping” list, and I didn’t check the date. So - I’m the last half-dozen replies! Oh well... Sorry! Let the snarks commence.

Electric cars are not made for road trips they are made for people who drive relatively short trips to work and back home each day.

So what person has the luxury of owning a $50K+ EV for jaunts around town and an SUV for the weekend 300+ mile trips up north?

Apologies for that. Suffice it to say that the author has no clue how to operate a Tesla.

the same family that already owns 2 cars, with one already being the large family car/SUV they take on road trips.

And many Hybrids sell for around 30K new

What's the cost of your special hybrids new and what's the resale value after 10 years?

What's the cost of battery replacements that will eventually be required on these used hybrids and the total EVs?

Sort of an update. Just saw my first dual motor Tesla, and being a curious wrench did a quick search on the dual motor thingie...

https://www.carparts.com/blog/what-are-dual-motor-teslas-meaning-plus-comparison-vs-single-motor/

After reading the well buried fine print, not interested in of those either.
