Sorry if this has already been posted, but it’s definitely worth re-posting. This is an interview with a Hawaiian lawyer who focuses on indigenous rights. It’s an extremely interesting perspective on the history of the Lahaina area in particular.

I am not a fan of the communist/activist/racist perspectives of democracynow.org. They seem to swap between advocating that this is all caused by Climate Change(TM), and then switching to this particular person‘s opinion, so they seem kind of confused. She clearly lays out how Lahaina became a dried out grassland waiting for a match and how this is all tied to native land rights and water rights. NOTE THE DATES THE WATER RIGHTS EXPIRED! Note that these are the same things they’re dealing with all over the western mainland United States, and were the causes of the Bundy Ranch incident in Nevada. Whether this was a horrific natural disaster or staged one, there is no question that the same sort of opportunistic land grabbing is going on in Hawaii.

And another question….why hasn’t that arrogant narcissist Obama put his cheesy mug all over the tv talking about Maui? This is (supposedly) his home state after all.
