A friend who is also a frequent visitor to Lahaina told me that the lame excuse they’re using on why they didn’t sound the alarm/sirens was because those are meant for tsunamis, and they didn’t want people to run for high ground. At least the people would have been alerted and they have a chance in avoiding the fires.

/\

I saw a clip of the guy in charge of those say the sirens are on the coasts

My sister lived at makawao which is about in the center of the island..
( her address makawao, but she lived outside the town itself )

and there was a siren across the street ,, I could see it from her front door.

Maybe he meant mostly on the coasts.

This fire was so fast most had no chance. I don’t think these fires were DEW.

( though I do beleive those were used in the Camp and Igo fires )

The original lahaina fire that was put out and reignited later to burn lahaina down was in a grass field that I don’t think had powerlines above it....

..i do think that 1st fire was human started.

Whether arson ,

or some kid sneaking out to smoke a cigarette they swiped and dropped a match ...

or something else accidently human started..

I do know one of the fires on ohau they did find accelerant ,, that one was arson

So until they investigate that 1st lahaina fire that reignited and discover the reason it started , there is no way to tell.

At any rate it’s a distraction right now that is less important than helping the lahaina survivors get situated and helped in the way they need it.

Ymmv.
