I was just half kidding about the class taking all the enjoyment out of watching a film. It did make me analyze films tho. That’s the exact opposite of how I went to the movies prior to taking that class. I think I was more interested in my dates than any movie prior to the class.
Way back when in my humanities course I had a section on movies, teaching the basics of characterization, camera language, etc. One time I had a student who was fascinated learning it all, and the next time she went to a movie with her boyfriend she kept pointing out things to him. Finally the bf blew up in the middle of the theater, “JUST LET ME WATCH THE #$%^* MOVIE!” She soon found a better bf.
