He made comment about the color of the soil (brown)... as I remember, the soil there is predominantly red, due to the iron content.
Cars parked all askew - consistent with people bailing out and abandoning their cars while trying to flee.
I saw a comment about why some boats burned out in the water. Well, if they caught fire pierside (not necessarily embers, could have been radiant heat), it’s a good bet that their mooring lines burned through and they went adrift.
Why didn’t some trees burn? Covered by others above.
