Radiant heat. might explain the nail heating burning the wood. Though it doesn't explain the plastic casing on the chain saw that is intact while right next to it metal melts and melts the glass.
I'm still trying to figure this out.

Electromagnetic induction - same principal used in a transformer, or one of those newfangled induction stoves. The energy is transferred by inducing currents in the objective element (in a transformer, the other winding(s), while on an induction stove, the metal of the pan itself).

Just as wire can be made quite hot if a high enough current is passed, the same would be true for any conductor(which would be most metals to a varying degree).

Just spitballing here...
