Day 531: 8 Aug Russians LOSE HOLD ON CONNECTION BETWEEN CRIMEA AND KHERSON | Ukraine Updates Explained Southern lands of Ukraine and the Crimean peninsula have become the most strategic and mobile front lines of the war in recent days. The Ukrainian Armed Forces focused primarily on inactivating the Russian Navy in the Black Sea in order to continue offensive operations in Zaporizhia, approach Crimea, and cut Russian logistics in southern Ukraine. For this purpose, if you remember, a Ukrainian unmanned seaplane shot down and sank the Russian Olenegorsky Gornyak Ropucha class amphibious ship. Just a day after this attack, Ukrainian special forces had sunk the Russian tanker ship SIG, this time near the Azov coast. In the attack on the Russian tanker, the Ukrainians again used unmanned seaplanes.
After these critical attacks, Russia hesitated to send its navy forces from the Black Sea offshore to the Ukrainian coastline. Because Ukraine had stated that all Russian-flagged ships off the Black Sea would be a target. After thwarting any Russian threats from the Black Sea and Crimea, the Ukrainians began to take historic steps to circumvent Moscow ‘s military logistics plans in southern Ukraine. As part of Kiev ‘s major offensive plans, the Ukrainian Armed Forces recently launched striking missile attacks on 2 surprise bridges to destroy the Russians’ logistics on the southern front lines and in Crimea. The attack on the bridge, which the Ukrainians first targeted, took place when the Russians did not expect it. The second bridge, on which Ukrainian forces launched missile attacks, completely collapsed the Russian logistics lines. The fact that these two bridge attacks took place on the same day in just 24 hours showed how close Kiev came to its plans to liberate Crimea.
Here are all the critical details of the unbelievable offensive operations carried out by the Ukrainian Armed Forces against the Russians’ two most important logistics bridge lines. The first attack of the Ukrainian forces was on the Chongar Bridge, which was last exposed to the Storm Shadow missile attacks on 22 June 2023. Recently, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a heavy missile attack on the Chongar Bridge, one of two ground arteries connecting occupied Crimea to the occupied territory of southern Ukraine. Russian sources claimed that the attacks were carried out by SCALP-EG missiles. But the Ukrainians again used British long-range Storm Shadow missiles to hit the Chonhar Bridge, according to Vladimir Saldo, the Russian-appointed governor of the Kherson Oblast, the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Also, Vladimir Saldo explained that the Storm Shadow missiles severely damaged the Chonhar Bridge in the occupied Kherson Oblast. Photos of the damage on the bridge broke the record for viewing on social media. According to the photographs, a huge breach had been made in the path of Chongar Bridge. Judging by the breach, it seemed likely that the Ukrainians used long-range missiles in this attack. However, it was not clear whether these missiles were Storm Shadow or SCALP missiles. According to the Ministry of Transport of the occupied Crimea, the transportation of the Chongar checkpoint, one of the three points on the border of the Crimea and Kherson region, has been temporarily suspended. Chonhar bridge is currently closed to passenger car traffic.
Sergei Aksionov, the Russian-founded governor of occupied Crimea after the bridge was closed to traffic, also shared critical assessments on this issue. Sergei Aksionov claimed that only one missile hit the Chonhar Bridge, and Russian air defense shot down the rest of the missiles. Aksionov confirmed the damage to the bridge. The Chonhar Bridge is an important transportation route that Russia uses to supply its forces in southern Ukraine via occupied Crimea. The Chongar highway bridge, which was used to transport ammunition and fuel to the Russian group in southeast Ukraine from occupied Crimea, was last bombed on 22 June. Since then, the Russians have been using the bridge for logistics.
But these recent Ukrainian long-range missile attacks on the Chongar Bridge have largely succeeded in cutting off Russian logistics in Crimea and southern Ukraine. Therefore, the Russians will have to use a longer connection line to carry their military shipments in the direction of Crimea and in southern Ukraine to Kherson and Zaporizhia. Before the Russians could get over this shock, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked another second bridge line used by Putin ‘s troops on the front lines in southern Ukraine. The Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the bridge across the Tonka Strait connecting the town of Henichesk in the Kherson region with Arabat Spit.
