He made a lot of people laugh. I don't recall him voicing any politics or sexuality issues in public.
RIP.

“Big enough piece of cake, or what?”
I loved his Saturday morning show. It wasn’t really for kids, it was for the kid inside of you.
He died of cancer at 70. It would not be surprising if his cancer progressed more quickly because of the heavy stress he was under, ever since that infamous fall from Hollywood grace. Inner stress can at times exacerbate a cancerous condition. One feels diminished and less able to spring back from disappointment than before, when most successful and secure.
His Saturday morning “kids” show was really adult humor in disguise with all the innuendo.
Kind of like ALF.
Wow. Wasn’t expecting this. R.I.P.
There are moments of comedy gold in Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. Also, if you’ve not seen his Christmas special it is worth seeking out.
Paul Reubens worked with second city or groundings folks John Paragon and Catherine O’Hara and you can see some of them on ‘The Gong Show’ clips.
At the time comedian actors liked to create characters of their own. Some characters caught on and some didn’t. Peewee caught on like a wildfire.
he was great and I’m VERY sad he’s gone. I posted another thread on this without realizing you had put one up. Thanks for doing that.
I just watched PW’s BA a week ago (for the 12th time :|)
I attended the live Pee Wee Herman show twice and it still ranks as one of the best things I’ve experienced in live theater.
It was new and fresh then and a very funny satire on the zeitgeist of children’s TV shows of the 50’s and 60’s. I remain a fan of Jambie the Genie to this day.
His dad was something....
