Same here. Same two sons. Same ruined estate plan. Lucky 2nd try but fellows, don’t count on it. Most marriages end in divorce. Most divorces end in financial ruin for the man.

Never getting married again. Both my sons have said they never will after seeing what their mother did and neither has a relationship with her. Been that way for 7 years. I'm fortunate that I've been able to rebuild my wealth and am within a few percentage points of where I was before the divorce. It helped that I sought out and found a good financial planner and I make a decent buck. Also live well below my means (always have) which made it easier still. I'm helping one son buy his first home and helped the other purchase a car for himself. I'm so glad to be able to do that for them.

Glad you have a lucky 2nd try. I have a long term lady friend at this point. We maintain our own homes, our own finances, etc.. and don't mix them. We're monogomous, travel together, are fully integrated with each others families etc.. My sons adore her and her daughter is like the daughter I didn't have to me. Neither one of us wants to marry again and we like how our relationship works for us.

Honestly don't see this ever changing and I'm fine with it. Were she and I to ever split up I'd be happy living my remaining days a bachelor. I have friends, hobbies and outside interests beyond our relationship to keep me busy. At this point I think I'm just too old to start over with someone else again and all that entails and honestly don't think I'd have it in me to do it. (She'd likely say the same thing.)
