With the red shift of light, the distance of galaxies vs red shift (indicated velocity away from us) is a straight line for galaxy distance when using other methods of measuring distance like brightness of standard brightness star types.

But, if there is light amplitude and frequency loss with distance then standard star brightness and doppler shift could cause errors.
