Gates of Hell. Often they are found in regions of unusual geological activity, particularly volcanic areas, or sometimes at lakes, caves, or mountains.
Some have higher levels of volcanic gases and heat, making them very uncomfortable, some causing hallucinations.
The oracle of Delphi in Greece, in which two faults intersect directly below the Delphic temple. The study also found evidence of hallucinogenic gases rising from a nearby spring and preserved within the temple rock.
