Unfortunately, the risk of any investments outside the US is very high. There are many more ways to lose your shirt than there are to gain a golden jacket.
Right now the best safe/profitable bet I see is to bet on the re-industrialization of the United States. If I were going to pick a state to invest in it would be Texas. If I were picking a sector to stay AWAY from it would be tech start-ups, unless you are intimately familiar with the company, the tech, and the management.
