A lesson that wasn't lost on us after WWII and our decision to keep Emperor Hirohito on the throne. Wise move.
“A lesson that wasn’t lost on us after WWII and our decision to keep Emperor Hirohito on the throne. Wise move.”
And one that many in DC never got over. They wanted Emperor Hirohito publicly humiliated and tried as a war criminal. Saner heads prevailed and the Emperor became a cornerstone of the occupation as he toured the country making public speeches exhorting the population to accept what had happened, to work hard.
This was a pivotal moment in the history of Japan. Never before had the average citizen heard the voice of the Emperor/god. Nor had anyone ever had the temerity to LOOK at the Emperor for to do so was to invite death from the heavens.
I have to give it to Hirohito, he made the occupation the success that it was.
