Homeowner, Adam Barnes told WFMY News 2 that Hank, the 65-pound black lab, wouldn't hurt a fly and has never charged at anyone.

go to any large public park, and I guarantee you will hear this same stupidity from an irresponsible dog owner.

There is no situation on God’s green Earth that the presence of a cop will not make worse.

Quotes:

Proper restraint of dogs will prevent them from harming other animals, people or property, and from straying and getting lost or injured.

At home dog owners must control their dogs by voice, an electronic containment system, or keep them restrained by leash, fence or other enclosure. (San Diego County Code section 62.669; California Penal Code Section 597)

Away from home dog owners must restrain their dog using a hand-held leash no longer than six feet. The person holding the leash must be capable of controlling the dog.

In a motor vehicle you must safely protect your animal with a harness or other device that will prevent it from falling, being thrown or jumping from the vehicle.

The dog probably barked at him which was scary to him or maybe annoying so he protected himself the only way he knew how. He was in fear for his life or maybe his hearing. Dogs bark as a warning to the intruder but also to alert their humans. Most dogs don’t bark a lot before attacking if they do attack. The cop did it to be mean because he could and would get away with it. The people who called the cops are just as responsible and are probably assholes.

In the old days, there were a LOT more loose dogs, and a lot more mutts. Larger jurisdictions had dog catchers, who didn’t have tasers or pepper spray. Were they armed? How did they do their job?

Police love to shoot family dogs so there is no reason to automatically believe this dog actually charged in an aggressive way. There was just a case where the police officer shot a dog wagging its tail and then continued to shoot as the dog tried to run away. Caught on video. Based on the dog type the I would start by assuming this was a bad shoot.

Q: Why did the cop shoot the dog?

A: Because it was there.
