It all comes down to weak parents. The adult child should have never been allowed to stay/come back, certainly not without paying rent + expenses.

When I was 21 I went home for a few weeks while my ex was in basic training. It was temporary from the get-go. And I worked and paid rent. After that, I couldn’t imagine living back home again. I’d be a bag lady first.
