Perhaps depletion of the stock of war materiel is the objective for the support of the Ukrainian “resistance”.

This is a war of attrition, and the first side to run out of either munitions or money to purchase more will be declared the loser. But there might never be a winner or loser declared, as two weary pugilists circle in the ring, neither with the remaining strength to lay a telling blow upon the other.

Just like WW I and the Korean War. They ended with armistice, not complete, unconditional surrender.
