I figured that out myself.   The editor could have made it MIA travelers instead of flyers.   I had a forty year career in telecommunications and we used the Airport designators to identify our long distance terminals.

I think editors intentionally jack around just to be cute and clever but miss their mark very often.

Who calls airline passengers flyers?   It is proper to call a pilot a flyer but not the passengers.
