The country's largest teachers' union has included two controversial books about LGBTQIA+ identity and racism on its summer reading list recommendations.
The National Education Association (NEA) made the announcement on Monday that 'Gender Queer' and 'White Fragility' were among their selections for its 'Great Summer Reads for Educators!' list.
'Gender Queer,' is a graphic memoir by Maia Kobabe that delves into gender and sexual identity. The book was the number one title on the American Library Association's banned books list in 2022.
The second book, 'White Fragility,' written by Robin Diangelo talks about race relations in the United States. Diangelo explores 'why white people are so bad at talking about racism.'
This summer's reading list comes after Becky Pringle, the president of the National Education Association, declared that racial and social justice is a 'pillar of NEA's efforts,' Fox News reported.
'For us at the NEA, education justice must be about racial justice, it must be about social justice, it must be about climate justice. It must be about all of those things,' she said.
'For our students to be able to come to school ready to learn every day... We can never think of education as an isolated system because everything connects to our students' ability to learn.'
Pringle continued: 'So, we have to necessarily talk about housing justice, food inequality, and the reality that we all just went through a global pandemic together and of course it was the most marginalized communities that were already suffering from the inequities in every single social system in this country and every country.'

Methinks that it’s time for parents all over America to band together and ask... no... demand that lawmakers pass laws to forbid teachers from joining teachers’ unions, and to also forbid teachers’ unions. Teachers’ unions are not about helping teachers to educate kids; they are political in nature and don’t have kids’ interests in mind, not at all.
Teachers’ unions are helping to destroy the country, and as such, they need to be banned from ever pretending that they are useful; they’re not useful tor educating our kids, and they do harm to teachers, most of whom are good people.
They are homosexual child groomers racist commies.

True - and parents all over the country are fighting this crap, even in liberal hellholes.
My niece is a teacher in crazy Loudon County, VA and she and colleagues of hers have been fighting this garbage for a while now. They also fought the vaccine and mask mandates a couple of years ago. You sure have to have a lot of energy to keep fighting these demonic forces and I hugely admire those on the front lines.
This is where the "Long March Through the Institutions" has brought us.
Why is society tolerating even a hint of this BS happening?

What would be wrong with the teachers & the unions picking out books for reading that would be appropriate for reading & for grade level? These sound like books that should be on the no-go list that are on the list so some author can make money with them,no matter how inappropriate the subject matter. They sell for the same reason X-rated movies do. I see no need for this within any school system. How about making books available for the students that will possibly create something useful for their education?
