Lake Erie freezes about 1/2 mile along shore yearly. In times of sustained winter the whole lake freezes over n you can walk across (well in theory) Cannot snowboard - frozen waves n terrain is very hard to navigate. In Dunkirk NY I had an Uncle n his two sons who owned large lots on Lake Erie. Not adjacent. We as kids and later adults always had fun on the ice. Most of family had several dogs n that added to mix made it even better
