My mother came from italy, Trieste which used to be near the Yugoslav border. After world war ii, they were carving up Europe. Trieste got to stay in Italy but everything to the east of her went to yugoslavia, she had quite a few Italian friends there. They lost everything, everything they had was taken from them. So she was very anti-communist.
No, they were FDR democrats that thought his socialist policies ended the great depression. They believed Walter Duranty and other pro Soviet propaganda, even when the lies were exposed. Pro labor union, mostly communist to this day.
