Hmm, maybe they’ll get someone worse??? Hard to tell who’s good and who’s bad. Is any politician there besides Geert Wilder good?

1. Netherlands coalition government goes bye-bye due to a little migration disagreement. 😮 The Dutch government has called it quits after some serious differences between coalition parties on asylum policies. Prime Minister Mark Rutte spilled the tea, revealing that the four parties couldn’t find common ground in crisis talks. Talk about a major case of not seeing eye to eye!

2. The government was established a year-and-a-half ago, but these parties have been at odds on migration policy for a while now. Local media is buzzing with rumors of fresh elections taking place in November.

During a news conference, Mr. Rutte confirmed the collapse of the government. After holding an emergency cabinet meeting, he announced that he’ll be handing in his resignation to King Willem-Alexander.

3. However, don’t you worry! Ministers will continue working as a caretaker cabinet until the new elections (how considerate!).

Mr. Rutte’s conservative VVD party has been trying to put a limit on the number of asylum seekers flowing in, especially after last year’s debacle with overcrowded migration centers. The Netherlands saw over 47,000 asylum applications in the past year alone, and sources say they’re expecting a whopping 70,000 applications in 2023.

It's best not to get too excited these days. People looking for a ray of sunshine can mistake a little light shining through a crack in the door for a supernova.
