Is that a practice of the rich in raising sons — Trade sons for some sort of enlightenment or something?

Perhaps it was an informal apprenticeship for the Getty-Newsom families.

Both Newsom name and Getty name are Scots/Irish. So, they would fit there

With those families, it’s all quid pro quo. By having Newman informally adopted, it opened up business opportunities, social opportunities, and political opportunities for Newsom as it did for Getty when the Newsom’s informally adopted Gordon?
