Thanks for sharing. That explains a lot.

I think I would take Captain Kirk's ride before the deep sea Titanic voyage. I hope this turns out to have a happy ending.

This vehicle design was not a good idea. Carbon fiber composites of the type used for the hull are not a good idea and the hardware for the control system is a joke. There is something about personal submersibles that make people go a little crazy. Knew a guy who wanted to make a sub capable of going down to 250 feet out of a used propane tank. Not a new propane tank - a used propane tank.

I had heard about the sub & potential issues - seeing it is better than just a description.

Thinking too much in detail about the likely situation of the sub/passengers is not something that is easy to do: very cramped, likely in the dark & cold, running out of air (70-96 hours of air), probably on the bottom somewhere .... if there wasn’t a catastrophic failure where they perished quickly. Prayers for them all & their families - hope a miracle occurs & they are found & safe. I believe I read somewhere the CEO is on this dive.

That “sub” to go to the bottom of the ocean is the equivalent of exploring the edge of space with a bunch of balloons and a lawn chair. And paying $250k to do it. Stupid squared.

Wow, there is no environmental controls in that vessel at all. Look at the condensation dripping from the ceilings. And they are using a Nintendo gamer control to navigate the vessel. The gamer control will short out the second it gets moisture in it. That is just insane and is so wrong on so many levels it’s beyond belief. And carbon fiber composite hull is a horrible choice for an external pressure vessel - 5 in thick carbon fiber cylindrical laminates are extremely difficult to fabricate to the necessary quality standards and any delaminations, curing induced fiber buckling or residual stresses will kill the compressive strength of the vessel, resulting in a collapse under the extreme external pressure of the dive. I can’t believe a guy with a background in aviation would be stupid enough to get in it. They navigate via text messages from the surface and they obviously don’t even have an operational emergency locating beacon on the vessel to locate it in the event of an emergency. Have to admit, it is a pretty cool way to commit suicide.
