The study of Mythical and lost plants is called Cryptobotany and its up there with Cryptozoology (Bigfoot hunters). The Bigfoot of their search is The Madagascar Strangling Tree, that kills people and animals to fertilize their roots. They have found some amazing plants over the years—One a pine tree growing in a valley in Australia, thought extinct, that dates back to the time of the dinosaurs. There is also the Lost Tanna Tree that died out in the Ancient world. No, it would not bring Mummies back to life, but a tea made from its leaves would cure madness. The largest meat eating pitcher plant recently found in Borneo could trap and eat a large rat or fox. One recent find—a mushroom that lives underwater in The Pacific Northwest. Not as fun as Bigfoot but rather amazing.
