Idaho subs——yup, but not quite. The ARD up north has miniature hulls to test such things as speed profiles, Noise, hull coatings, and stuff. That cold fresh water is easy to work with. But don’t forget ARCO. They have the middle of a sub there-—the reactor compartment for an S4W type reactor. All the Nuke sailors get a month or so there to learn how to operate the thing. Don’t think they’ve ever done it but a sub could actually sail up the Columbia River, then the Snake, all the way to Lewiston. As it is they only haul the retired reactors to Hanford: pretty close but not quite Idaho.
