You drink raw milk?

Yes, but not as often as I like. Two members of my family are dairy farmers, but they live 45 and 60 minutes away. That’s not exactly as convenient as going to the grocery store.

The entire bit on whole milk is what kicked off the changes that I made in eating. I noticed that I was satisfied by drinking about half the amount of whole milk than 2% milk. That increased my fat consumption a little, but decreased my calorie consumption. I applied the same idea to other things. The key is to find the things that satisfy you with minimal consumption. Stay away from things that do not satisfy.

Here’s a good one that doesn’t satisfy me. Last week I bought a 2 liter bottle of Coke to have with some homemade pizza. For some reason, I love Coke with pizza, not beer or wine. A day or two after the pizza I was thirsty. I reached for the leftover Coke. My thirst was not quenched. It’s the corn syrup in Coke - highly processed - keeps me thirsty I think. Coke doesn’t satisfy my thirst. It satisfies my taste. Big difference. So selections of food and drink are to satisfy hunger and thirst with the least amount of consumption. I also think our bodies crave certain foods because they contain a needed nutrient.

My opinion is that are many ways to skin a cat. Whatever diet you choose, you should stick to. But almost nobody does. At some point, people give themselves permission to backslide.

Everybody likes to share their diet stories, so here’s mine:

YES:

Small meals CHEWED SLOWLY and THOROUGHLY.
Mass quantities of water throughout the day, especially at bedtime and first thing in the morning.
Protein, fiber, vegetables.

NO:

Liquids consumed within half an hour before or after meals
Carbonated beverages (not even seltzer water).
Sugar (that includes corn syrup).
Yummy fat (New York strip steaks, BBQ, etc.)
Alcohol

LOW: calories, fat, carbs (not keto low!).

My plan is to continue this for the rest of my life.
