It is Alexa and the doorbell.I understand what you're saying, but Google tracking me in my car originated with my phone, and when Google continues to track my in-car movement/location -- even when I don't have my phone with me -- is absolutely spying in my book.
That is your triangulation from the towers and GPS augmentation that is tracking you. Google is allowed to use position information from the cellular network. Your phone is not actively spying on you. Now, if you are actively using Google maps for navigation then of course Google knows where you are. Your phone is engaged in very active communications with Google the entire time.
