I knew him slightly. When he was preparing for his role as a Ranger Captain in “The Eagle Has Landed” he hung out with us in the 1/75th Ranger Battalion for a week or so.
Seemed an OK guy, and he could mostly keep up with us, although a bit mystified at some of the stuff we did.
That was a good movie. Larry Hagman’s gungho character got shot through his helmet at point blank right between the eyes by a female German spy as he thought he was sneaking up on her.
