Seriously, it’s a township named for Colonel Ledyard, who led the locals against invading British at Ft. Griswold down at Groton, while Benedict Arnold attacked New London across river. Arnold came from Norwich where I lived.
Lots of graves in the region describe the subject patriot fighting “traitor Arnold” at that time. (I’m a graveyard nut and that was a huge pastime for me up there.)
