“I’ve learned that the kids don’t want to discuss politics or get the opinions of their parents. Your job in that department ended when they were in their late teens.”

Like you, we’ve come to mutual accommodations so we can enjoy each others company. I don’t criticize and they don’t either. We know what topics are off limits. That is the best way to enjoy your adult kids and not get into fights that can turn ugly and lead to estrangement.”

One of our DIL’s is an old fashioned liberal. She has created two careers and owns rental property.

“If my wife or I have surgery or some health issues, she is here to help and yet never be in the way. Our youngest son/her husband is a true middle of the road re neither major party. So we don’t discuss politics.

Our other DIL is a Wharton grad and has gone from obnoxious east coast liberal to a good conservative. She has 2 self owned employment careers. I would not be surprised if she and our older son pull the plug on California and move to Floriduh. She despises our California politicians and her liberal neighbors.

We have good friends in Floriduh and a cousin, who was/is like an uncle to our sons. This son could run his own business from his home. They had thought about Idaho, but it may become another Oregone/Washington.

They could live in Floriduh, and he could run his consulting business with his son living in N. California as the local guy. She can do her business thing anywhere.

“They had thought about Idaho, but it may become another Oregon / Washington.”

My grandparents spent their entire lives in Idaho. Mom was raised here. My uncle settled in Twin Falls after WW II and raised his family there. Dad, my uncle, my aunt and my Mom all went to the U of I. So I have deep roots in ID and I’ve been visiting since the early 50s when I was a tyke. So it was a natural place to choose for retirement and getting out of CA.

We were able to keep our CA place and I like going back in winter. But it’s great to get back to ID.

The insane left has designs on every single state. They want to replicate their Colorado and New Mexico successes in all states, especially TX these days. There is far less of the rabid, insane lib penetration in ID, but all bets are off around Boise, Twin Falls, Moscow and Blaine County (Hailey, Ketchum and Sun Valley). But so far, so good. Here in the northern part of the state, the libs have even less traction, but we are flooded with out-of-staters. Fortunately, most of them are fleeing failing states and don’t seem interested in recreating what they left.
