I’ll honor my Dad, who served in the 86th infantry in theater, in WW2, as well as some uncles including my mother’s only brother (and 5 sisters), Harold, who served in the US navy in WW2, and was a medic at Omaha beach, and also served in a MASH unit in Korea. He also served in Vietnam to prevent my 4 cousins from having to fight in that war.

All heroes that survived their battles in the various wars, but have since passed from old age.

But for the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, as horrible as those events were, my dad would have been transferred to the pacific campaign and would undoubtedly have been involved in the invasion of Japan, which would have been very likely to be a long and bloody battle.

Indeed - sounds like your family have also served. I don’t know any that didn’t in my family but likely there were some who opted not to...an that’s ok too.

Though not having a father growing up and knowing too well the hole it leaves in a kids heart - I am so grateful when God revealed He is my “Father”. For someone who didn’t know theirs that’s an enormous and wonderful realization.
