On the silver lining portion of this cloud, name somebody in the Biden Administration that is qualified to be the AI expert.
A leader is chosen to lead. A leader can assemble a panel of experts to provide advice on complex, technical problems (like AI).
A leader requires unbiased advice from many diverse responsible viewpoints and does not let their support staff “steer” the inputs to favor one outcome or another.
A leader receives the panels’ report and recommendations then works to craft a solution that best protects the people’s interest and well-being.
If the panel of experts’ work is deficient and time permits, a leader determines where the process went wrong, reformulates its charter, reconstitutes its membership as necessary, and tries again.
If time does not permit, the leader assesses the courses of action available based on the level of risk poised by having incomplete/defective information and makes decisions that, once again, best protects the people’s interest and well-being.
A leader is someone who takes responsibility for their decisions. A leader understands that criticism comes with the job and is able to discern the useful from the noise.
A leader is someone who doesn’t quit and remove themselves when their decisions go wrong. If able, they remain and help the execution team craft effective responses to the evolving situation.
The leader’s focus is on collective success, not individual glory.
A “good leader” is a person with a history of making and implementing sound decisions that actually benefit the entire public.
Based on the above, there are probably very few persons in Washington DC who possess these characteristics. None of them is named Kamala Harris.
