I don't think he was trying to insult her. It's a tough balancing act. He wants to consult with his wife but he can't be seen as taking orders from her.
I only trust a few people as much as my wife. My brothers, my mother and my father are the only people I trust 100%. I can't blame Desantis for wanting his most trusted person's opinion. He knows she has his best interests at heart. That's true of most wives unless you're married to Hillary Clinton or some other untrustworthy whore.
