Thanks, LJ - saw it yesterday in either this thread of the old one.

And yes, I saw that they took out part of the patriot defense system. Which was probably their target. What better test of the hypersonic missile than taking out a good missile defense system, or a good part of it.

From the standpoint of Russia, this is pretty big. Actually, from the standpoint of the US, it’s pretty big too. Although the patriot system wasn’t impervious, this appears to have easily defeated it.

Of course, we can rule out the possibility that the Ukrainian soldiers operating it were incompetent.

PS - lemme copy just a bit from Ukraine Watch:

May 1️⃣6️⃣. Events around Ukraine and worldwide, stay tuned for tomorrow:

Progress of the special military operation

◾️ Russian forces have taken a better defense line as a result of an offensive by Russian Airborne Forces units near Artemovsk, said Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov, a spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry.

Peace initiatives

◾️ Leaders of six African countries - Egypt, Republic of Congo, Senegal, South Africa, Uganda and Zambia - plan to visit Moscow and Kiev in early June to discuss ways to resolve the Ukrainian crisis, South African Foreign Ministry Director General Zane Dangor said.

◾️ Moscow and Kiev responded positively to the initiative of the African leaders. For example, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia is ready to consider proposals to resolve the Ukrainian crisis from African and Latin American countries, but so far no proposals “on paper” have been received from them.

Beijing negotiating

◾️ China’s Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs held talks with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister in Kiev. According to a report from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Kuleba “stressed during the conversation that Ukraine does not accept any proposals involving the loss of its territories or the freezing of the conflict.”

The two-month extension

◾️ Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced a 60-day extension of the grain deal, under which more than 30 million tons of agricultural products had already been removed from Ukraine.

◾️ A little later, Moscow confirmed the extension of the deal. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted that “distortions in the implementation [of the grain deal] must be eliminated, experts will work for this on a permanent basis, as they have been working all this time.”

No fighter jets

◾️ The British government is not going to transfer Eurofighter Typhoon fighters to Ukraine at the moment, but is ready to help with the training of Ukrainian military pilots in the long term, UK Defense Minister Ben Wallace said.

◾️ Polish authorities are not ready to give Ukraine their F-16s, but are systematically handing over MiG-29s, Polish President Andrzej Duda said. He added that Warsaw has few F-16s, which “makes it impossible to talk about transferring any part of them to Ukraine.”

Funds for rebuilding

◾️ Participants at the Council of Europe summit in Reykjavik signed a declaration on the creation of a register of damage caused to Ukraine as a result of hostilities, for which Kiev and the West hold Russia responsible, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said.
