Rumors that I had a heart attack are completely false. I am alive and healthy.

Breathing easier today?

At least we don’t have Russia as a neighbor.

Howdy, Stranger!

Thanks! You always bring me back to the sensible things and I’m so very grateful for that!

When you do make an appearance, it is, as always, stuning. I’m grateful for those appearances, too!

I’m glad we don’t have Russia as a neighbor. Except, like, in Alaska, but only bears care there.

I need to get Kathleen some waterproof matches for her wilderness survival campout.

Somebody suggested painting kitchen matches with fingernail polish.

I don’t use the stuff, myself.

Never heard of that. I might try it just to see whether it works.

If it goes down the match far enough, it should work, as most of it is flammable. Or used to be.

Contains alcohol. Walmart had some small boxes. She probably won’t need them, but you never know, and it’s not like it’s big or heavy.

I don’t know what’s in my Bug-Out Bag, but I’m sure it either has waterproof matches or a flint striker. Maybe both.

A Girl Boy Scout should always be prepared!

Wilderness Survival campout this weekend! She and Frank went to Wilderness Survival Day Camp last year, but this time, she’ll have to sleep in her shelter, presumably with other girls from her patrol.

Flint striker, huh?

You do realize that a butane fueled candle lighter, even when it’s out of fuel, has a spark for ignition, right?

I can’t understand why those you-tube outdoorsmen who spend twenty minutes trying to start a fire didn’t pack some matches or something when they packed up the meat they’re cooking.

Yes, I have one of those as well. They’re very reliable, though awkward. They do last a long time, though.

I grew up learning how to start fires because I had two brothers in Scouting and my dad was the son of Pioneers. He knew how to start a fire and took great pains to make sure that we girls knew how to start one, too!

But, yeah — I agree with you.

Hey! Someone oughta write a song about YouTube Cowboys....

It sounds like fun for her, so I’m interested in how she does.

It’s more fun to start a fire the hard way, or so I’ve heard from some teenbros.

Generally speaking, you are never completely bereft of resources, even if your situation comes on by surprise or accident.

Information and a cool head are essential.

A simple example would be using your bootlaces to make a bow drill for fire starting.

But that means that you should never be anywhere near a forest setting wearing only flip-flops.
