"ABC 57 reported the homeowner called police dispatch and told them a suspect with a knife had allegedly entered his home." I mean, really, who calls in to 911 and says that!?

Really! I think the only time I’ve ever used the word “allegedly” in my entire life is when I’m making fun of liberals and journalists who write or say “allegedly.”

Exactly. “Allegedly” should only be used to describe the crime, since the accused has not been convicted. But the press just nervously sprinkle it about as a balm against lawsuits, because A. editing, as a profession, is dead, and B. journalists are idiots.

If they are quoting someone, like “the homeowner said the accused broke into his home”, there is no “allegedly”.
