I’ve been watching the Trump vs. DeSantis showdown here and have a few questions. I voted for Trump twice, worked the phones and poll watched for him and am convinced he was the only one for regular Americans. He had the right policies for us. I have two concerns. He is supposedly a germaphobe and I think that influenced his decisions regarding Covid. He also didn’t have a team behind him. Many stabbed him in the back. How would it be different if he was elected for another term?
Regarding Desantis, I watched some of his Iowa stuff and he seems to say the right things. He may even be to the right of Trump on some issues. He also seems to have a good argument about what he’s done in Florida. He doesn’t have Trump’s suburban housewife baggage (who my wife of 31 yrs asked how many times Trump’s been married - she voted for him and we’re not voting for a Pope) but I’m sure they’ll come up with something to hang on him. I know that many have said that he’s beholden to big donors.
I’m on team fight it out for the nomination, After that, I’m on team how do you fix the rig and how do you win I haven’t heard any of that from anyone.
No, that would be you. Trump openly sided against our side in both of those cases.
You, and YOU ALONE, brought up Adlai! I replied to your irrelevant reply to my post.
But that’s not what we were talking about. We were talking about candidates who won the race after losing to the same candidate four years earlier. There are few examples. Andrew Jackson, Grover Cleveland. None recently. The more recent history is that when they run after losing, they lose again.
Surprisingly folks are behaving in this thread…..a very nice change!
Your questions are relevant but sometimes it’s easier to work backwards to find the solution.
Facts:
DeSantis has not been vetted nationally, in the general he will be defined by the left as authoritarian and use the FL legislation as proof (and misconstrue it). Ex. Don’t say gay law……and it worked effectively at misleading the public.
DeSantis is to the right of Trump and that will alienate some converted Democrats and independents
Most of america, especially women support 15 wk abortions, DeSantis passed 6 week abortion. That will not be popular
Trump or Nothing voters will not vote for Trump’s enemy DeSantis in the general- the number is 10%-20% of MAGA (@13 million) Many of these never voted before Trump because they believe DC is a uniparty.
DeSantis will not attract voters that switched to Republican for Trump 2020 because of Trump’s success with the economy. DeSantis has no record on the economy.
DeSantis will attract rep soccer moms assuming they support 6 wk abortion. He will not attract independent soccer moms for that reason.
As for Trump, he will have the same numbers as 2016. Maybe a little more because of the economy
If DeSantis runs, he will lose the primary and end his chances for being president 2028. Much like the rest of them. Trump is brutal in the debates.
Those that want a primary are shortsighted. Trump is the clear front runner, everyone knows he will win. Why stack up bodies doing it? The fact that DeSantis knows this and will try anyway makes him an opportunist, and ignoring what the majority of republican voters have already decided. That is very self serving.
As for election fraud, neither candidate can tell states what to do about elections. Voters should be engaging their state for reforms.
Everything above pertains to the election - in general, DeSantis would not win the general and Trump probably won’t either regardless of the opponent. It is what it is.
Assuming Trump does win, I guarantee he knows much more than he did 2016. The hard part will be finding good people, they do not exist in DC, bureaucrat or otherwise. Additionally, congress is NOT MAGA, neither Trump or DeSantis will get anything MAGA accomplished.
The president cannot do much, nor will any branch of government embrace MAGA. Knowing that, the only thing that can change that is the voters, engaged voters, voters that contact their representatives. Trump is a great cheerleader. And voters did get involved but not near enough. After the 2020 disaster, some voters realized they need to get engaged and made a difference. To this day, it still isn’t enough. The only thing that will bring change is NOT the president, it’s the voters actively monitoring their representatives…….and holding them accountable.
I seriously doubt that DeSantis (or any other politician) can motivate voters like Trump. So, if DeSantis wins the general…….rep voters will go back to sleep. And MAGA is dead. Congress is not MAGA and will not pass anything MAGA whether DeSantis wants it or not.

As for the dems, I predict they will let Biden run if they believe he can beat Trump. Otherwise they will go with RFK instead. He will be hard to beat. And he doesn’t have the baggage that Biden has. Another reason I think Trump will lose. They are using DeSantis, lawfare, RFK as a last resort to take out Trump. RFK may be the one that succeeds and DeSantis will have blown his career for it. Very stupid.
Trump has done nothing to make himself more popular with the suburban middle-class voters he needs.
Which candidate was among the first to re-open from COVID lockdowns? Which one attacked him for it? Which candidate created “15 Days to Slow the Spread,” then unleashed Fauci and Birx on the country?

Which candidate is going to get his ass kicked in the Republican Primary?
Answer: Ron DeSantis
I agree with you. I also think Ron DeSantis is being backed by all the wrong people and he doesn’t have the moxie to go against them and will be led by the nose with what THEY want for the Country. No thanks. Trump 2024
DeSantis just posted the link to Daniel Penny’s legal defense fund.
https://twitter.com/RonDeSantisFL/status/1657212176178855939
I posted the article links that show he did. YOU are lying.
Thomas Massie and Chip Roy endorsed DeSantis. Two of the most Conservative members of Congress. So did Trumps former campaign adviser. Meanwhile, RINOs Mike Huckabee and Lindsey Graham are supporting Trump.
Look at RD’s legislation. Pro-gun, tough on criminals, tough on illegals, ended CRT in state colleges, ended gender propaganda in middle schools...has a budget surplus and drained the swamp in FL government.
So Trump is telling everyone how great the guy DeSantis beat is.
I’m not misrepresenting anything. As I said, I posted articles — actual evidence — that backs up what I’m saying. You have not.
I'll start out by saying that I grossly underestimated the size of the swamp. I think that Trump did too, but probably not as badly as I did.
Regarding the swamp, before DeSantis, or any other Republican is eventually elected to the Oval Office, Trump must 47 must first finish draining the swamp, including cleaning up the corrupt the judiciary. This is because I believe that Trump will do the best job of anyone in cleaning up the corruption.
Next, regardless that FN wants everybody to believe that the Oval Office of the peacetime, constitutionally limited power federal government is the most powerful office in the land, that is simply not the case, emphasized by my use of contradictory terms.
More specifically, retired governors or incumbents like DeSantis do not want to take the vast state powers that they used to make their states thrive with them to the Oval Office and use those powers to try to make the nation thrive.
Good-intentioned conservatives have unthinkingly taken state powers with them into the Oval Office, but that is why we are now being oppressed under the boots of an unconstitutionally big federal government imo.
"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
“If the tax be not proposed for the common defence, or general welfare, but for other objects, wholly extraneous, (as for instance, for propagating Mahometanism among the Turks, or giving aids and subsidies to a foreign nation, to build palaces for its kings, or erect monuments to its heroes,) it would be wholly indefensible upon constitutional principles [emphases added].” — Justice Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution 2 (1833).
From the congressional record:
”Simply this, that the care of the property, the liberty, and the life of the citizen, under the solemn sanction of an oath imposed by your Constitution, is in the States and not in the federal government [emphases added]. I have sought to effect no change in that respect in the Constitution of the country.” —John Bingham, Congressional. Globe. 1866, page 1292 (see top half of third column)
Pelosi: "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it." (non-FR; 6 sec.)
“Cherish, therefore, the spirit of our people, and keep alive their attention. If once they become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress and Assemblies, judges and governors, shall all become wolves [emphasis added]. It seems to be the law of our general nature.” - Thomas Jefferson (Letter to Edward Carrington January 16, 1787)
Democrats Are Terrified Of An Educated And Informed Public (3.12.23)
In fact, given that one of the very few powers that the states have actually expressly constitutionally given the peacetime federal government to dictate domestic policy is to run the US Mail Service, the key question that all Constitution-savvy voters need to ask themselves regarding who they're going to support for president is the following.
How many corrupt, constitutionally undefined political parties and unconstitutional, unaccountable trillion dollar omnibus bills does it take to run the US Mali Service?
I say none, no political parties or massive omnibus spending bills needed to deliver the mail.
"Article I, Section 8, Clause 7: To establish Post Offices and post Roads;"
"From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added]." —United States v. Butler, 1936.
In other words, the drafters of the Constitution had intended for the peacetime federal government to basically be a lame duck 24/7, Trump at least able to do what he does best which is making trade deals.
Otherwise, after Trump finishes draining the swamp, he can spend more of his second term on the golf course, much like Obama did.
And if DeSantis follows Trump into Oval Office then DeSantis can spend even more time on golf course than Trump did since the swamp will hopefully be gone.
On the other hand, if DeSantis really wants to serve the most people that he can under the Constitution, then evidenced by Rep. John Bingham's statement from the congressional record above, Bingham a constitutional lawmaker, DeSantis needs to keep his governor's job imo.
I decided during the 2020 steal I would vote for Trump in 2024. Who the Republicans run is irrelevant when the Democrats fraud machine can alter the election. Trump is the only one who will stand up and fight the fraud instead of cutting deals over it.
This is an easy decision for anyone with any discernment. Trump is a multinational Billionaire that put it ALL on the line for Traditional American values.
Desantis is wholly funded by The Swamp, and RINO MEGA Donors whose only objective is to eliminate President Trump and return to DC Business as Usual.
It’s really this simple.
And, it’s really this an important of a distinction. The survival of our country for the average American depends upon people understanding this distinction.
I posted this on a dying thread earlier tonight, but it sums up my take on DeSantis, so I’m reposting it:
DeSantis’s rise didn’t occur in a vacuum. The Establishment consultants and power brokers have spent years cultivating him. This is how they’ve managed to control things in the background all these years. THEY decide who the next “latest and greatest” rising star is going to be. They stroke his ego and run interference for him. And the result is a polished, scripted, and totally controlled politician. There’s nothing organic or grass roots about it.
The image of a strong independent leader is an illusion that they work hard to create. And they’re good at it, so it’s up to a savvy and informed electorate to not be fooled by it, otherwise we’ll continue to be manipulated and we’ll continue to be disappointed.
DeSantis’s successes have all been orchestrated and allowed to occur by his Establishment string pullers. If the GOP Establishment wants you to fail, you’ll fail 90% of the time. If they want you to succeed, they’ll invest the time, money and effort into creating an image for you that, on the surface, looks impressive, but is not what it appears to be. I’ve seen it too often to be fooled by it anymore.
