It depends on which iteration of Bond you want to go with.
If you go with Fleming’s Bond, he has to be a white Englisman/Scotsman. He was written to be about a particular man in a particular era. Elba can’t be that Bond.

However, some have interpreted Bond to be a designation, where some who is hired as 006 has their identity hidden by the government. This Bond is replaceable. This Bond, Elba could play.

No, you cannot legitimately change Bond’s race. Because the character has a specific identity and characteristics. Characterization is an important part of fiction. I wouldn’t want a Bond that was suddenly 5 feet tall or autistic or bespectacled either. That’s not Bond. Bond is an English gentleman spy of the old school, not an African immigrant.

You’re a tiresomely woke type. How unoriginal. You probably would like to see Sherlock Holmes as a Chinese Fu-manchu type and feel proud of how “open-minded” you are.
