The original annual military parade on the Red Square was held on May 1st - the International Worker’s Day. In 1941, Stalin had special guests of honor at the Kremlin for the occasion - Hitler’s Nazis - the Soviet Union’s allies.
Background on the secret Molotov-Ribbentrop alliance between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany, signed in 1939. Hitler invaded the Soviet Union just 1.5 months after his representatives attended Stalin’s May 1st military parade on the Red Square.
