I only heard it from really old people. For a woman usually. Men were “nigros”. It was considered the cultured way of saying it in the Carolinas. Using the N word was considered common.

In Central Virginia it was pronounced KNEEgrow for men and KNEEgress for women. Everyone was happy with the situation... until the white liberals pizzed on everything.
