Cubans took to the streets on Saturday night in Caimanera, Guantanamo, to protest against their dire situation, gathering in front of the Municipal Government and Communist Party headquarters.
Videos posted showed the violent response by military personnel against the protesters, including women. Shouts of “Long Live a Free Cuba”; “Patria y Vida” and “Long live human rights!” could be heard.
Forced disappearances are common in communist Cuba, and weeks can go by before family members hear any word on the whereabouts and condition of their loved ones. It is a tactic used by the Castro regime to both quell dissent by removing dissidents completely from the public as well as terrorize the population by sending the message that they or a loved one may be the next victim of a forced disappearance.
Government kidnappings are a frightening prospect. Never in my life have I ever considered that it could happen here, but it no longer looks as far-fetched as it used to. A subtle form of it is happening already. There are reports that many of the doctors who spoke out against the covid measures in Canada are being permanently censured and disciplined for their actions. Their licenses to practice are being removed in British Columbia and the legal system is so far refusing to overturn the decisions of the licensing boards. It remains to be seen whether or not the Supreme Court will correct the decisions. Once the courts are confirmed to be completely compromised, more open and pervasive government abuse won’t be far behind. Canadians have been incredibly naive about our freedom. I include myself in that statement.
